Case Study

Office Clearance, Glasgow City Centre

Client Name: Shelter Scotland

Sector: Charity

Website: http://scotland.shelter.org.uk/

Location: Glasgow

Requirements

We recently completed a clearance for a charity who were moving office. They required a large amount of office furniture to be recycled which was no longer required or being taken to their new premises. They were under time constraints due to their current lease expiring and needed to co-ordinate this with the move into the new premises.

Obstacles

The property was situated on the first floor of a building on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow city centre at an incredibly busy junction. Even had they wanted to, there was no availability for a skip. Due to the volume of on street traffic we were only able to have two trucks in situ at any given time. We were able to get a parking exemption from Glasgow City Council which allowed the job to proceed in a timely manner.

Solution

We removed a full range of redundant office furniture from the building including desks, office chairs, lockers, cabinets, computer equipment, tables and chairs and waste electrical appliances including fridges. We had 5 staff operating inside the building preparing the clearance as well as a further two drivers insuring the trucks were where they had to be at all times.

Outcome

The clearance was completed over three days and a number of the items were able to be reused or recycled. Over 90% of everything removed from the building avoided landfill and was recycled. These clearances can often be challenging because of other businesses still operating within the building at the same time as well as our clients looking for a seamless move. We were in and out within our estimated timescale and the move completed successfully. We were also then required to remove packaging and cardboard left over from the install at their new premises.
